Summer Concert 2024

We are a vibrant, energetic and forward-looking choir singing a wide range of genres and with an exciting rolling programme of new music. We work hard but our rehearsals are always full of fun and laughter and our aim is to entertain. Through our concerts, performed in the local area and further afield, we raise much needed funds for a variety of charities.

Under the musical leadership of our MD, Clare Oliver, the choir is continually evolving, aiming always for the highest standards and rising to new challenges in the pursuit of excellence in singing. Most of all it is fun.

We are always ready to welcome new members and run a number of Open Evenings throughout the year. Take a look at the Membership page for more details.

HAMPSHIRE HARMONY look forward to performing for you. Don’t miss out on the fun and friendship! Come and join us as we set out on our new adventure.

Our History

Old Choir Photo 1

Basingstoke Ladies' Choir started life in 1964 under the baton of a Cornishman, Ken Williams, who formed the choir from the wives of men working at the AWRE in Aldermaston. Originally called the Oakridge Singers, the choir quickly grew both in number and reputation, drawing in women from a wider area and was renamed Basingstoke Ladies’ Choir. It would take a month of Sundays to recount all the wonderful years and experiences of the choir – friendships have been formed with other choirs in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Malta, and Spain. Overseas trips have always been an important and very enjoyable part of the choir’s history and, in fact, a trip to Belgium is planned for 2021 – postponed because of the Covid-19 virus. We have won many prizes at Music Festivals and supported many charities.

The choir has benefited from having several Music Directors over the years and is currently under the baton of Clare Oliver. You will see more information about Clare on the Music Team page on the website.
